Hiring Demand for Mobile Skills Remains Strong

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

Over the past 90 days, more than 42,000 new job ads have been placed online for Computer Specialists and Programmers with mobile application and development skills, according to WANTED Analytics (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. The ad volume for these skills increased more than 50% compared to the same 90-day period in 2010. After hiring slowed in June and July, demand for Programmers with mobile development skills bounced back with more than 17,000 online job ads in September. As mobile banking, mobile commerce and mobile gaming gain in popularity, this growing hiring demand signals that businesses recognize the need to connect with customers through mobile applications.

Some of the most commonly advertised Computer Programming job titles that require mobile skills include Software Engineer, Web Developer, Project Manager, Systems Administrator or Engineer, iPhone Developer, and Java Developer. Metropolitan areas with the highest hiring demand for mobile programmers during this 90-day period were New York, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington, DC. Employers and staffing firms within New York placed more than 4,200 new online job ads in the past 90 days, the most of any city at a 56% year-over-year increase. However, of these five locations with the highest demand, San Francisco experienced the highest growth from last year, up more than 80%. The national average salary for Programmers with mobile development skills is between $ 91,800 and $ 106,000.

An increasing volume of job ads for a limited talent supply has caused moderately challenging recruiting conditions, with each location experiencing varying degrees of difficulty. Of the five cities with the highest volume of job ads, Recruiters in San Francisco are likely to find these jobs the hardest to fill. According to the Hiring Scale, the talent pool in the San Francisco area is slightly smaller than average, meaning that Recruiters will need to compete more heavily to source talent for open positions and will likely see increase time-to-fill and cost-per-hire. In addition, the Hiring Scale shows that the easiest places to recruit for these occupations are Columbus, GA and Champaign-Urbana, IL.

The Hiring Scale measures conditions in local job markets by comparing hiring demand and labor supply. The Hiring Scale is part of the WANTED Analytics platform that offers business intelligence for the talent marketplace.

ZeroTurnaround joins Eclipse Foundation, releases JRebel for Eclipse

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 1, 2011

ZeroTurnaround, creators of java tooling for development and production environments, today announced both that it has become an official member of the Eclipse Foundation, and todays release of JRebel 3.6 includes support for the Eclipse Marketplace.

For years, weve seen the work that the Eclipse Foundation does to support the community, and weve always wanted to contribute, stated ZeroTurnarounds CEO, David Booth, With ZeroTurnarounds 2010 revenues growing nearly 300% Y/Y, were in a position where we can offer financial support to the cause. Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation, added, “We’re proud of all our Eclipse Foundation members. Developer tools like JRebel are great products to help Eclipse users be more productive, and valuable additions to the Eclipse ecosystem.”

JRebel is a productivity tool for Java developers that maps the project workspace directly to a running application. When a developer makes a change to any class or resource in their IDE the change is immediately reflected in the application, skipping the build and redeploy phases. Imagine a situation where you have to restart your computer every time you want to check or send an email, in order for your mail client to do its job thats similar to the pain that JRebel solves for Java developers, though it has nothing to do with emails, explains Mr. Booth, Every time a developer makes a change to the application hes working on, whether its a bug fix or adding a new feature, he has to redeploy that code to an application server, restart the app, navigate to the place where he made the change, and ensure that it works correctly. This whole process consumes 2-3 minutes on average, and occurs as often as a computer-focused business person checks or sends emails. JRebel eliminates that problem. Among other new features, JRebels 3.6 release provides easy access, installation, and configuration for Eclipse users.

Todays release of JRebel can be found in the Eclipse Marketplace, or you can go to http://www.zeroturnaround.com/jrebel/eclipse-eval/ to get a free 30-day license key and more detailed download instructions.

Hiring for Tech Talent Begins to Slow, But Remains Most In-Demand Field

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 15, 2011

During October, Recruiters in the US placed 220,000 new job ads for tech related openings, according to WANTED Analytics (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. Although this occupation may be seeing a seasonal slowing in hiring demand, it remains the most demanded field in the United States, up 5.7% versus October 2010. This occupation reached a 4-year high in May 2011, when 250,000 jobs were advertised at a 40% year-over-year growth.

Some of the most commonly advertised Computer Programming job titles include Project Manager, Software Engineer, Java Developer, Business Analyst, Systems Administrator, Database Administrator, and Programmer. Of these highly demanded jobs, Programmers saw the greatest increase, with a 15% year-over-year growth. Database Administrators were the only occupation of the above mentioned that saw a decline, down 1% compared to last year.

Metropolitan areas with the highest hiring demand for technology related talent included New York (NY), Washington (DC), Chicago (IL), Atlanta (GA), and Los Angeles (CA). Employers and recruiting firms in New York placed more than 18,000 new job ads, the most of any city. This, however, represented a 1% decline in hiring demand versus October 2010. Washington and Los Angeles also saw a year-over-year decline in job ad volume, while Chicago increased by 11% and Atlanta grew 27% compared to the same time period in 2010.

Despite slower seasonal demand, the talent supply remains limited for Computer Programming occupations and tech talent, resulting in challenging recruiting conditions. According to the Hiring Scale, the nationwide talent pool consists of about 4 potential candidates per advertised job. However, some locations will find these jobs harder to fill based on a smaller local talent supply. For example, the candidate pool within the Washington, DC metro area consists of 3 potential candidates. Recruiters here are likely to spend more time sourcing talent than many of their counterparts. In Washington, DC, jobs ads are online for an average of 45 days, in comparison to the national average of 40 days. The Hiring Scale also shows that the easiest places to recruit for tech talent are Lebanon (Pennsylvania), Beaumont (Texas), and Elkhart (Indiana).

Eclipse Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation

Ottawa, Ontario (PRWEB) November 02, 2011

In the month of November, the Eclipse community is celebrating 10 years since the start of the Eclipse open source project. In November 2001, the Eclipse IDE and platform were first made available under an open source software license. IBM made the initial $ 40 million contribution of technology to start the Eclipse project that has now grown to technology commons with an estimated value of over $ 800 million. The Eclipse community has also emerged as the leading place for individuals and organizations to collaborate on innovative technology development.

Key Stats
273 open source projects at Eclipse.org
1057 committers located around the world, more than half in Europe
50+ million lines of code across all Eclipse projects
174 member companies of the Eclipse Foundation

Key Accomplishments

Eclipse began as a platform for building tools, and its first killer app was the Java IDE. But the Eclipse community has since expanded into many technology areas. Some of the key accomplishments of the Eclipse ecosystem are listed below.

Eclipse has an estimated 65% market share in the Java IDE space and over 6 million users. Since its inception, Eclipse has driven the consolidation of what was once a highly fragmented Java tools market. It has been instrumental in the worldwide success and adoption of Java itself.

The Eclipse C/C++ IDE (CDT) has become the de facto standard developer IDE in the embedded and real-time operating system market. At least 50 companies are building their developer tool solutions based on CDT.

The Eclipse Modeling community has grown to become the largest and most innovative community at Eclipse. The vast majority of UML modeling vendors worldwide base their solutions on Eclipse.

The Eclipse Mylyn project is now the industry hub for integrating tools across the application lifecycle. There are over 70 Mylyn connectors that integrate different ALM solutions into the Eclipse developer’s desktop.

The annual Eclipse Release Train has demonstrated how open source communities can deliver in a predictable and reliable manner. For the last eight years, Eclipse has shipped a major release at the end of June, on time to the day. The 2011 release train, Indigo, included 62 project teams, 408 developers, 49 organizations, and 46 million lines of code.

The Eclipse ecosystem has millions of individuals, thousands of companies, and thousands of universities and research institutes that have grown up around the Eclipse industry platform.

We are incredibly proud of what Eclipse has accomplished over the last ten years, explained Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. The combination of a strong technology platform, a vibrant commercial ecosystem, the right community model, and passionate individuals has made Eclipse a worldwide industry success. Moving forward, we see Eclipse as the place for continued industry innovation and collaboration. The next ten years are going to be just as exciting! Projects like Orion, Xtext, Mylyn, JGit, Virgo will keep Eclipse an exciting place.

“IBM is proud of its 10-year affiliation with the Eclipse Foundation, from founding member to one of the most active advocates of Eclipse-based technology and product development” said Sal Valla, Vice President Architecture and Technology, IBM. “It is vitally important to encourage and enable open, transparent technology communities based on open standards and open source collaboration. The committers, Eclipse Foundation, member companies and users have brought not just technical innovation, but organizational and governance innovation as well, all of which will endure.”

The Eclipse Foundation is organizing a number of activities to celebrate the 10th birthday.

EclipseCon Europe will kick off the celebration with a 10th birthday party.
Regional Eclipse birthday parties are being organized around the world during the month of November.
Eclipse community members are invited to add themselves to the Eclipse 10th birthday timeline.

More information about the 10th birthday at available at [http://www.eclipse.org/10years

About the Eclipse Foundation

Eclipse is an open source community, whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle. JRebel 4.0 Released — Redeploys Beware

(PRWEB) June 01, 2011

ZeroTurnaround, a Java tooling company, today announced the release of JRebel 4.0, the redeploy-eliminating JVM plugin that allows developers to see changes they make to their apps instantly, without redeploying.

With this latest JRebel release, weve definitely broadened our attack campaign against redeploys, the natural enemy of Java developers worldwide, remarked ZeroTurnaround’s CEO, David Booth. According to a recent survey of over 1100 Java developers completed this year, redeploying claims an average of 10.5 minutes of every coding hour, for most developers.

When Java developers want to see the effects of new code (or make changes to existing code), they have to redeploy their entire application – even to see the smallest changes. If you had to restart your computer every time you wanted to send or read an email, thats a similar level of frustration, explained Booth.

Wed like to enable Java developers to start up their container when they start working, and know thats the last time theyll have to do it all day.” Booth continued, With JRebel 4.0, were 95% of the way there.

Our goal is to continue providing tools that benefit the Java world at large, starting with helping Java development to be as fast and iterative as other programming languages, like Ruby or Python, continued ZeroTurnaround’s CTO, Jevgeni Kabanov.

Having already prevented over 33 million redeploys for 11,000+ Java developers worldwide, JRebel 4.0 adds some highly-demanded features such as integration with HotSwap, new EJB support for more versions of JBoss, Weblogic, Websphere & Glassfish, support for anonymous class renaming and a dozen new integrations with various technologies. See more details here.

This latest version of JRebel arrives just two weeks after the debut of LiveRebel, a new tool representing a quantum leap in technology to instantly update live production apps across an entire cluster with no downtime, no lost user sessions and no OutOfMemoryErrors. ZeroTurnarounds Rebel Technology is used both in JRebel and LiveRebel for making instantaneous changes with zero downtime to applications both in development and in live production.

Customers purchase JRebel and LiveRebel as annual subscriptions, which means that they get full support and upgrades to new versions several times per year at no additional cost. There are free licenses available for Open Source and Scala projects.
