Who are our Customers?
Our initial customer base is composed of Java software engineers, both those in a corporate enviornment and those working as independent contractors. This includes engineers in development and quality assurance engineering organizations, as well as systems integrators and other professional service providers who use Java. It is estimated that there are 1.5 to 2.5 million Java developers worldwide. RetroVue beta customers are split between leading financial institutions, telecom providers, and enterprise systems and software vendors and independent contractors including Sun, Nokia, Compaq, JD Edwards, Charles Schwab, Passport, Parabon Computation and several university professors. The beta community is world-wide with developers from Europe, Asia and Australia as well as the Americas.

Here is what one of our beta customers said about RetroVue: "The visualization of threads is terrific. Knowing when a thread is active/locked etc., is a terrific asset and one that I have never seen before. Very nice!"

How do customers use our products?

The Vue products are used by the developer prior to release to QA, by QA to check certain aspects of its functionality, by engineers deploying the product to monitor its correct operation and troubleshoot failure, and finally to provide real-world feedback to the architect for design enhancements. With the launch of RetroVue in Summer 2002, VisiComp is expanding our base to it's customer-facing engineers, providing professional services, customization and systems integration services, and to pre-sales engineers building proof-of-concept demos. VisiComp plans to expand this base in December to tools resellers and IDE providers.

A recent survey by DevX found that 83.3% of respondents surveyed felt that a quality debugging capability is of critical importance in a Java tool. Only 19.1% of respondents were satisfied with their existing debugging tools. The target market of VisiComp’s RetroVue is the gap between what is currently available to Java developers and what is important to them.

Approximately 65 percent of Java programmers use an IDE; while the remaining 35 percent use a set of stand alone tools for developing Java-based programs. All IDEs provide an outdated debugging capability that fails to deliver the productivity improvement desired by developers.

Our customer base as we grow

A Zona Report indicates that the annual market growth of Java software products over the past 4 years has averaged 30%. The Java development software market will soon exceed $1 billion, based on this growth rate. An August 2001 report by the Gartner Group estimates that the application and integration middleware group reached more than $3.4 billion. An InformationWeek survey found that 46% of IT managers intend to use Java as the development platform for this group of applications. The demand for Java application tools is also being driven in areas such as wireless application development, where it is estimated that the use of Java as the base platform language will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 83.5% over the next 5 years. Visicomp products address these market segments.
